So . . . Carlos and Micah and Brett and Paul and I got into a nice conversation about abortion tonight, and I was thinking we could just have a discussion thread about it. I don't know how good of an idea this is, but yeah, here goes.
I am of the opinion that abortion is morally wrong, but that it should be legal because, on an issue as important as whether or not to have a baby, the legality of it will most of the time have no effect on the mother's decision. Therefore, since abortions will happen one way or another, they should be regulated so as to better ensure the safety of the mother.
Discuss/argue. |

I'm going to agree with Alex on that one entirely, but I would also put in a note that if laws don't have anything to do with regulating moral decisions then they are basically worthless. The whole point of laws is to protect the society norms that "the people" deem to be correct. I'm personally not fond of living in a society that allows the killing of anything because it would be a burden to a comfortable lifestyle. At the same time I'm cynically almost glad that "consenting independent women" who realize they can't raise a child but still get their asses pregnant aren't instead going to be shitty mothers.
P.S. If anyone brings up the "rape" card in this topic it is null because that is a pretty standard boring argument. _________________ Yeah I suck...from the nipples of SUCCESS. |

So are you saying that it is morally acceptable for a woman to get an abortion if she were raped, Alex? So many people seem to shrug it off as, "Well the woman can't be responsible for it because she resisted it entirely from before conception," but I feel that argument does not apply when one's reason for being against abortion is, like you said Alex, "I'm personally not fond of living in a society that allows the killing of anything because it would be a burden to a comfortable lifestyle." If a woman is raped, it is just as much her responsibility to keep the baby as a woman who had unprotected sex, because the responsibility comes from the universal responsibility of protecting the baby's right to live, regardless of what happened to create it. It is truly unfortunate for this raped woman that she must have the baby of her assailant, but that is no excuse for her to take away the baby's life. |

true...well for the record I'm against abortion in all instances which is why I put the "rape" argument in a "P.S" saying that it is not a valid excuse as it is "standard" and "boring".
And Patrick Foreskin Kelly I'm disapointed that you would quote a Crusader in an abortion argument there is a large difference between killing an innocent and an infidel. _________________ Yeah I suck...from the nipples of SUCCESS. |

No, it takes a lot fewer morals to kill a baby than an infidel |

Oh god, I can't tell if it's an argument against killing babies, or an argument against morals. _________________ -Zandy

Well that either makes you an infidel, or a baby. Either way you die. Which one you want? |

I think the word should be "infiby" because you could be an infidel before you're birth...so if you were to abort for example a young Mooslum fetus...that would be just _________________ Yeah I suck...from the nipples of SUCCESS. |

But what if it was rape by one of the Righteous Legions, rather than another infidel? _________________ -Zandy
